Do I need my Provisional Licence before I can book my first lesson?
Yes it is a legal requirement and we would need to see and check your licence before we take you out on your first lesson
Do I need to pass my theory test before I start lessons?
No, however it is advisable to start studying as early as possible as it will complement your driving. Additionally there are currently delays due to Covid 19, we recommend you book your theory test as early as possible to avoid further delays. We offer access to a study aid “Theory Test Pro” to all students.
How long are lessons?
Our lessons are 2 hrs long, unless there is an identified learning or medical need to vary. Experience has shown this to be the most productive and cost effective way of learning.
What happens in my first lesson?
Normally your instructor picks you up from home/work and takes you to a safe location (car park or quiet housing estate). They will check your licence, do an eyesight test, cockpit and making the car safe drill. They will then teach you to move off and stop safely, use mirrors and signals and carry out left and right turns at junctions and hill starts. Towards the end of the lesson your instructor will teach you to park the car, we do this at an early stage as it is good to help students gain clutch and steering control as well as checking blind spots and helps to allay some concerns and builds confidence.
Does my lesson have to be at the same time and day every week?
No, we can easily accommodate a regular time slot, however many students have a variable work or college timetable and with a little organisation and planning by both parties we can normally accommodate most students requirements.
I have a specific learning need can you accommodate me?
Our instructors have extensive experience of different learning styles from their prior employment in emergency services and other coaching qualifications. We have experience working with students with a variety of learning needs successfully. We will also give an honest opinion regarding capacity to drive.
How many hours of tuition will I need
Every student has a different rate of learning but on average our students that are able to practice in addition to their lessons tend to pass at between 20-30hrs. The national average according to the DVSA is between 40-45hrs
Do you have any discounts?
Currently we charge £30 per hour if you pay as you go. A block booking of 10hrs costs £285 and a block booking of 20hrs costs £560 giving savings of £15 and £40 respectively.
Do you have any introductory offers?
We currently offer a 2hr taster lesson so you can try out Blues Driving School before you commit to a block of 10 or 20 hrs of lessons.
When am I safe to practice in my own car?
This varies, your instructor will advise the student and parents/supervisory driver as to when the student is safe. We also invite & facilitate parent/supervisor coming out on a lesson for them to see what and how the student has been taught, we find subsequent practice then complements the lessons better and accelerates progress, reducing your costs.
I passed my test years ago but I have rarely driven and lost my confidence, can you help?
Yes, we can offer a bespoke package tailored to specific needs to boost confidence e.g roundabouts, busy junctions, hillstarts, country roads, motorways, night time, town centre, parking etc. We also help prepare easy routes to work/college and practice them to help ease driver into every day driving.
I have just regained my licence following a health revocation, my family are concerned whether I am safe to resume driving, can you help?
Yes, an instructor could do an assessment/refresher drive with you to check you are safe and help rebuild your confidence and provide reassurance to family.
I am currently having lessons elsewhere but I am concerned with my rate of progress, can you help?
Yes, we can do an assessment drive and provide feedback as to level of competence and rate of progress. We have a very high success rate with students that have transferred to Blues Driving School.
Can I do Motorway lessons?
Yes, Blues Driving School offer motorway lessons.
What car do I use on my test.
You would normally use the car you have had your lessons in for your test. You can use your own vehicle but there are certain criteria that must be met that your instructor will advise you on.
